How to Make a Glycerin-Based Cannabis Tincture?
Cannabis is extremely adaptable. Dabs, hash, bubblehash, oils, medibles, and tinctures can all be made from it. I’m going to demonstrate how to prepare a glycerin-based marijuana tincture for you in this article. A wonderful substitute for smoking, vaping, or potent-tasting alcohol-based marijuana tinctures is a glycerin-based marijuana tincture because of its many uses.
You can incorporate a high-quality cannabis glycerin tincture into food or drink.
For those who utilize medical marijuana, be aware that glycerin tincture offers quick transfusion as well as relief from pain, spasms, and other issues.
This practice not only provides practically instant medical benefits, but it also enables patients to regulate their dosage similarly to smoking medication.
Making your own marijuana tincture is a reasonably simple process, though it does require some time and preparation.
You’ll need the following to get going:
- A crock pot with a “low” and “warm” setting
- Cheesecloth
- Large bowl
- Latex gloves
- Wooden spoon
- 1 gallon (3.79 l) of food-grade vegetable glycerin
- 1/4 -3/4 pounds of premium buds and/or high quality trim material
- Glass storage container

Preparation:
In the crock pot, mix marijuana and vegetable glycerin.
The medicinal marijuana must be well mixed with a wooden spoon until it is completely covered with glycerin.
Stir the crock pot frequently for around 30-45 minutes on “low” (every five minutes or so).
You should be able to detect a potent cannabis smell after 30-45 minutes.
At this time, the glycerin will have soaked the marijuana, making it much deeper.
The smell is a sign that the decarboxylation process is taking place.
This converts the cannabis‘ naturally occurring, non-psychoactive THCA into THC, which is psychoactive.
Turn the crock pot from the low setting to the warm setting as soon as the smell is detected.
Mixture should be heated on the warm setting for 12 to 20 hours while stirring frequently and forcefully.
Please be aware that not all crockpots have temperature notations that are the same. Start the 30- to 45-minute first cooking phase at the higher temperature setting that your crockpot provides.
Then reduce the heat in your crockpot to its lowest level and keep it there for the previously mentioned 12–20 hours.
More cannabinoids are absorbed by the glycerin when it has been stirred.
Turn off the crock pot after 12 to 20 hours (this photo was shot at 20 hours) and let the mixture cool for about an hour.
The purpose of this cooling-off phase is to prevent hand burns when filtering.
The mixture should now resemble a thick, greasy soup.
To fit within the sizable bowl, fold the cheesecloth. The plant matter is separated from the glycerin, which is now cannabinoid-rich, using cheese cloth.
Pour a portion of the mixture into the basin with the cheesecloth.
Because a lot of the glycerin marijuana tincture gets stuck in the plant material, lift the cheese cloth and squeeze it… Has someone with strong arms helps!
More tincture is extracted the tighter you squeeze.
This is how the tincture appears after being freshly squeezed.
Put the tincture in a glass container for storing.
Repeat the filtering procedure until the entire contents of the crock pot have been drained.
Here is a half gallon of premium medicinal marijuana tincture that is ready to be bottled or kept for a long time.
Even though the tincture is actually a light brown or amber tint, larger amounts will appear to be very dark.
A closer look at the completed item. The finished mixture has a lovely amber color, as seen in the eyedropper.
This specific tincture formula produces about 115 oz. of high-quality medication (there is always some loss during processing). Cannabis tinctures made with glycerin taste extraordinarily sweet, like honey or maple syrup.
A typical dosage is between 15 and 30 drops (1/4 and 1/2 tsp), however you should always test your marijuana tincture carefully to avoid overdosing.
Patients can take their medications whenever and wherever they wish with the help of glycerin-based marijuana tinctures.
Within five to ten minutes, you’ll feel it when it’s placed immediately beneath the tongue.
Please take note of the following: When preparing various batches of cannabis tincture, you should experiment by varying the amount of time the temperature is set to warm versus low and by the total amount of “cooked” time.
When preparing cannabis as edibles, tinctures, or other bases, in general, the longer the cannabis is heated, the more the psychoactive effects shift from stimulating THC effects into something more heavier.
Find the temperature and cooking time formulas that are most effective for you by conducting your own timed experiments, evaluating the health impacts, and experimenting on yourself.
